The snow has finally fallen and stuck on the ground! I am so excited! The first snowfall we had this winter didn’t last long and before it melted all away the weather was way too cold to even think about going outside for fun. Playing in the snow is a lot of work for parents, getting them all bundled up and then dealing with the wet clothes and puddles throughout the house, but what a great way to get active during the winter season. Here are some fun ideas to enjoy indoor and outdoor snow this weekend!
Make Homemade Snow Ice Cream!
What you’ll need:
●5-6 cups of snow
● 1 cup Milk
● 1/2 cup sugar
●1 tsp vanilla
Put 3 cups of snow in a large bowl, add the remaining ingredients, add 2-3 more cups of snow & mix.
TIP: Whisk together the milk, sugar, & vanilla before going out to get the snow. Less time for the snow to melt.
Top with some of your favorite toppings or syrups, we like to add a drizzle of chocolate sauce and sprinkles on top! ENJOY!!!
Enjoy playing with the snow INSIDE
What you’ll need:
● a plastic storage container
●tablecloth
●food coloring and cold water
●paint brushes
●Sand molds
Lay a tablecloth down, bring in a container full of snow, and let the kids use their imagination. There are endless possibilities to create. Painting with food coloring is one of my toddlers' favorites. If the snow starts melting just toss it back outside and re-fill with fresh new powdery snow.
Sledding
Although you can find hours of entertainment in the snow in your own backyard if you are looking for a sledding hill here is a popular one open to the public from sunrise to sunset.
●Kickapoo Park (hill by the big playground)
Remember sledding can be hazardous, please always be mindful of the following:
-make sure your child will not slide into a street or anywhere with oncoming traffic
-going headfirst sounds fun but it can be very dangerous
-bundle up accordingly and check your child’s hands and fingers because most likely they will tell you they are not cold.
-be aware of your surroundings and be very cautious of sources of water (streams, lakes, ponds)
-make sure there is enough snow to not cause any harm to the turf below. A general rule of thumb is no tips or blades of grass are visible on fresh powered now.
